Had a return ticket for me in AI 042 Delhi - Chennai and AI 430 Chennai - Delhi sectors in June. In onward trip, though my flight was in domestic, check in, security and boarding gates were from the same area of Terminal 3- international departure, which was truly a memorable one (Really incredible infrastructure)
Reached Gate No 20A to board the flight. departure time of the flight is 1200 hrs. the near by tv screen displayed boarding on. but the airline staff was not giving an answer of whether the flight will be late or cancelled the schedule...(It can happen any time in case of AI). after 30 mns announcement came with a tune of regret saying the flight is delayed by 1 hr. Anxious pax wait continued.
its 1315, boarding started. I reached airport at 945 hrs and stomach was calling this time for food as I was was really shocked after seeing the food prices in IGI airport.
Rushed to find the seat 10 F aisle seat. kept the cabin bag in the rack, and saw the seat. Looked like it was occupied by the oil haired people of India, the head rest was blackish, but rest of the sear was red and black mix. two beautiful air hostess on board. one of them age more than 50, and the other one is about 30. but make up make them air beauties (only for Air India). got a 100 ml. nimbooz and a tissue paper as a consolation to wait for an additional hour.
The gates were closed, but the plane didnt move.it was kept in the tarmac for more than 30 mns. Soke continued to move through vents for more than 15 mns.(Air purification/)
My fear grew up as Ihad to catch an evening train from Chennai on same day. Wat to do, my prayers started with Lord Ganesha and ended up in Jesus Christ. later slowly, it moved to the runway for take off.
by the time i had a quick scanning of the materials available for entertainment. the videio screen looked pretty old (As we see in SBI ATM--No Sensation in tough screen or remote control), the inflight magazine was appeared as if it was flipped by by many, torn sheets.filled sudokus and crosswords..the headphone was dirty and was in in a proper case ....
The mannual for emergency help found folded and dirty too.
By the time take off announcement came. the flight moved speedily, had a smooth take off, but the up seems completely shaking as if the plane was going through the roads of Varanasi.
till reaching the balance I closed my eyes (My mind was filled with the pictures of Mangalore Flight crash)
Inflight audio/video is as old as the aircraft purchased. perhaps of 1980's. the carpet itself is also showing the age of the aircraft..... (the footprints of millions of Pax, shos the age of carpet).
Waited for the anxious item. Food. Though I like food, inflight food always have a bad taste. The friendly air hostess,asked veg/non veg. I preferred veg. As an angry house wife she served a lunch. Finished the 2 naan/chaval shahi paneer/dal and fruit salad with a coffee. (Though the sealed food look fresh, the taste of Paneer was only one week old).
Fortunately, I could not go to Latrine as it was a short flight, hence that experience is not mentioned.
The flight landed safely at Chennai around 1530. My prayers helped ...with a relief of tension, I moved out of the aircraft fast to get the registered bags to catch a taxi.
(Almost same experience when I was returning tooo)
Note: When foreigners travel in Air India flight, they may have the real opinion of the hospitality of Maharaja.....when private air lines, maintain curteous and smart staff, good food, inflight entertainment, neat aisles, sumptuous food and a lot more....What a pity that Air India is just becoming a pure govt. enterprises rather than serving people.
