Varanasi, the Eternal City

The city is a mystery for many. Atleast for me. A city living on tales. A city also living up on the beliefs and myths. Every resident of this city is a blessed person. Every inch of this land is having divine power. It is my thought or beliefs of many. Whatever it is, the city boasts of hundreds of years heritage and traditional living. This is the place I live every day. The following lines are silly thoughts of my life in Banaras. This is the city where every one find to be happy, and smiling This is the city where different cultures meet, where the Lord Shiva blesses devotees. The Ghats are filled with colours in the evening.. People are moving towards the river to take bath Their lips are repeated with prayers….. Holding the prayer stick in the shoulders, Poring the Gangajal in the bottles, Prayag Ghat is crowded already with pilgrims, Aarti is about to take place… I moved through the Gallies inside, Where the narrow lanes tell you hundreds of stories,

Happy Onam.... In the Past ...autobiography

Onam is a celebration of happiness proseperity. Freed from our first term exam ends, which usually takes place just before Onam time. Kannan, Babu and Me were close friends, studied together from Kalari to standard 7.  (kalari- a Kerala model of education for kids of kindergarten age—almost extinguished now.) What I am mentioning here is of my life at a childhood at the age of 8-9 yrs. If you read ‘God of Small Things’ my village is also same except lakes or rivers. We have small hills which create narrow valley’s leading to wide area, every ones farm is filled with coconut trees, pepper plants, and many other small crops like ginger, elephant foot etc. Every house is a small one and medium rich people are having tiled roof houses and others have huts. The belief behind Onam is the wait of People to welcome the visit of Mahabali a King ruled Kerala (in myths). To remember the good times that the subjects had during his rule.
